Davangere Police Arrest Two for Blackening Writer’s Face

On Monday the Davangere police arrested a couple of people in connection with the “blackening of the face of a controversial writer.” The reportedly controversial writer is called Yogesh Master. They allegedly came on a two-wheeler and smeared the face of the writer with black ink after he attended a function in Davangere. The incident occurred on Sunday. appsgeek The two arrested were identified as Sivaprakash and Chetan as the two belonged to the Right Wing Hindu Jagaran Vedike.

He participated in the noted Kannada writer and journalist P. Lankesh’s 82nd Birth Anniversary Function. Gowri Lankesh Patrike organized the function at Kuvempu Kannada Bhavan on Sunday. The controversial writer Mr. Yogesh Master was sipping tea near Bapuji Dental College at a road-side shop.  Then two men the accused, reportedly approached him on a two-wheeler and smeared his face with black ink or black paint. The reason they did that was because he allegedly defamed Hindu gods and goddesses in the writer’s books.

On the other hand, the keen political observers can see a political angle in the incident. They were afraid that such kinds of incidents would continue during the State Assembly Elections run-up to help the right wing parties. This was for gaining political mileage. The incident meanwhile triggered a snap protest by the progressive writers as well as activists who condemned the incident. The Badavane police registered a case and have also arrested the two culprits the very next day, based on the complaint. They were arrested on Monday.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka Siddaramaiah said that he was shocked over the incident of the blackening of the progressive writer’s face. He also said that there were instructions given to the Davangere police in order to take stern action against the two accused. A couple of men who approached the writer and blackened his face with black paint on Sunday were Sivaprakash and Chetan. They reportedly belonged to a Right Wing group Hindu Jagaran Vedike. He participated in the Birth Anniversary function of a noted Kanada writer & journalist.
